That's me in the photo above wearing a digital over coat, I know, I look huge due to the down coat underneath. The temp is close to 10 degrees here and the light is flat. Visibility is 20 miles.
Another snowy morning at drop zone Malamute. The sky is the same color as the ground with the only hint of colors come from the forest on the far side of the drop zone and even that is a gray green and brown.
We sit quietly in our trucks discussing our rolls in this days training. We discuss rescue and medical differences between wilderness and battle field patient care. We are keen for the sounds of Helo's and 130, as the time comes and the DZ is opened up by control. Artillery sounds near-by.
Then comes the sound of helicopter, the Pavehawk comes in low and fast. He circle the airfield a few times then lands about 1000 meters away. The medics cache gear in a pile and the pavehawk lifts off and is gone to refuel with the C130 circling over the inlet almost out of sight 10+ KM off........
The PJ's perpare gear and begin heading across the field. The Pavehawk is refueled and is heading home holding out some distance off. The C-130 makes a few passes and on the last one some jumpers on rounds exit the aircraft and land near their team mates........
